On Android phones, everything starts with whether your phone is compatible. Then comes pairing, and after it the checks Philips suggests when the sound cuts out.
First: is the phone compatible?
There are hundreds of Android models, so the answer depends on the specific model. In the Philips compatibility guide you choose the phone model and the hearing aid model, and see which streaming options are supported. What Philips states:
- Philips hearing aids pair directly with Android phones and tablets, including Huawei, OnePlus, Google Pixel and Samsung. Direct pairing lets you adjust the sound in the HearLink 2 app.
- According to Philips, direct audio streaming works on a phone that supports ASHA (Audio Streaming for Hearing Aids). An ASHA connection alone does not guarantee calls without holding the phone. Phones that support neither ASHA nor LE Audio need AudioClip for audio streaming.
- For HearLink 50, Philips states that it includes LE Audio, which allows calls without holding the phone with Android devices that support it as well.
- For the Samsung Galaxy A55 and A56, Philips states they are compatible. Anyone who experiences crashes in LE Audio calls is asked to turn LE Audio off and use ASHA streaming, if the phone supports it.
Pairing according to Philips
- Close. Place the hearing aids within about 20 cm of the phone.
- Bluetooth. Turn Bluetooth on in the phone settings, if it is off.
- App. Open the Philips HearLink 2 app. According to Philips, it searches for the hearing aids automatically.
- Restart. On rechargeable hearing aids, switch them on with a press of about two seconds on the lower button of each hearing aid.
- Select and confirm. When the hearing aids' name appears on the screen, select it, confirm pairing if the phone asks, and tap Continue when the hearing aids are connected.
The sound cuts out or does not arrive: Philips checks
- Bring the phone closer. The closer the phone, the stronger the signal. According to Philips, if the problem appears when the phone is in a pocket, you can try turning it so the charging port faces up.
- Restart Bluetooth on the phone, even in the middle of a call.
- Restart the call or the app when there is echo or distortion.
- Turn off Bluetooth on devices that are not in use, to reduce the load.
- Turn airplane mode on and off on the phone, to refresh the connection.
- Restart the phone.
- Pair again: delete the hearing aids from the Bluetooth list and pair once more.
When the phone does not support direct streaming
According to Philips, Android phones that do not support direct streaming use AudioClip. The pairing order: first pair the hearing aids with AudioClip, then pair AudioClip with the phone. What AudioClip does and when it helps: Philips HearLink AudioClip.
The app versus the phone connection
It helps to separate two things. Pairing in the app gives you control of the hearing aids: volume, programs and battery status. Streaming calls and music depends on what the phone supports. So the app may work while calls still do not reach the hearing aids. In that case go back to the compatibility check above.

Frequently asked questions
Questions and answers
How do I pair Philips HearLink with an Android phone?
According to Philips, bring the hearing aids close to the phone, turn on Bluetooth, open the HearLink 2 app, switch the hearing aids on with a press of about two seconds, select them on the screen and confirm pairing.
Why does the app work but calls do not reach the hearing aids?
Control in the app and audio streaming are two different things. According to Philips, direct streaming works on a phone that supports ASHA, but ASHA alone does not guarantee calls without holding the phone. HearLink 50 also supports LE Audio, which allows calls without holding the phone on Android phones that support it. Phones that support neither ASHA nor LE Audio need AudioClip.
How do I know if my phone is compatible?
Check the Philips compatibility guide, where you choose the phone model and the hearing aid model. You can also bring the phone to the appointment and check it together in practice.
The sound cuts out when the phone is in my pocket. What can I do?
According to Philips, bring the phone closer, and if it is in a pocket, try turning it so the charging port faces up. Turning off Bluetooth on other devices that are not in use also helps.
