Already know Philips and considering a new hearing aid? This guide helps you understand what to check before upgrading, and what to bring to the appointment.
First: which hearing aid do you have?
Before comparing, you need to know what you have today. The model name can be found in the purchase documents, and sometimes in the list of Bluetooth devices on your phone. The simplest way is to send us a WhatsApp photo of the hearing aid and the charger, and we will check together. Do not guess by colour or shape, because hearing aids from different generations can look similar.
What Philips states about HearLink 50
- Four technology levels, 9050, 7050, 5050 and 3050, in two rechargeable styles, miniRITE R and miniBTE R. See how to choose.
- Phone and calls: according to Philips, HearLink 50 includes LE Audio, which widens the connection options and allows calls without holding the phone with iPhone and iPad, and with Android devices and Windows computers that support LE Audio.
- Streaming: according to Philips, you can stream music, films, TV programmes and podcasts from iPhone, iPad and Mac.
- Sound processing: see SoundMap 3 and background noise.
- App: according to Philips, the HearLink 2 app lets you change the volume and program, see the battery status and find lost hearing aids.
What does all this change for you in practice? It depends on what bothered you with the previous hearing aid. If the phone was the main problem, the connection will be a central topic at the appointment. If the difficulty is in noise, we will focus on the level.
Chargers: do not assume the old charger fits
This is the mistake we want to save you. According to Philips, the Charger and Charger Plus are designed for the miniRITE and miniBTE R versions of HearLink 50, and each style has its own charger. According to the Philips instructions for use, charge only in the charger designed for the hearing aid. So a charger from a previous hearing aid will not necessarily fit the new one. Bring the old charger to the appointment and we will check by model. The HearLink 50 chargers: accessories and chargers · Charger or Charger Plus.
Existing accessories
Do you have a TV Adapter or an AudioClip from the previous hearing aid? Do not assume they will work with the new one, nor that they will not. Compatibility is checked by hearing aid model and style, and sometimes they also need pairing again. Bring the accessories to the appointment, or send a photo in advance.
The app and the phone
HearLink 50 hearing aids work with the Philips HearLink 2 app. If until now you used a different app, or no app at all, we will go over installation and pairing together at the appointment. Changed phones since the previous hearing aid? Bring the new phone, because compatibility depends on the phone model and the hearing aid model. More: Bluetooth and phone.
A hearing test before upgrading
Even if you are happy with Philips, hearing itself can change over the years. So the upgrade starts with a professional hearing test, not with copying the old settings. At G-Sound you can arrange a hearing test at home nationwide, by appointment. After the test the level and style are chosen, and not necessarily the same level you had. The fitting stages: fitting and follow-up.
What to bring to the appointment
- The previous hearing aid, its charger and accessories.
- The purchase documents of the previous hearing aid, if you have them.
- Results of previous hearing tests.
- The phone you use today.
- A list: what worked well in the previous hearing aid, and what bothered you.
The last list is the most important. It turns the upgrade from a choice by the new model into a choice by what you need.
