Difficulty hearing the TV is one of the most common reasons people contact us. Here is how the Philips solution for HearLink hearing aids works, and what to check before deciding.
What the TV Adapter does, according to Philips
- It sends the sound from the TV straight to the hearing aids.
- It lets you watch TV at your preferred volume.
- It lets you turn the TV volume down or off and still hear the sound in the hearing aids.
- When you switch to the TV program on the hearing aids, dedicated TV sound settings are activated.
According to Philips, the TV Adapter appears in the accessory list of HearLink 50 miniRITE and HearLink 50 miniBTE R.
Why it matters at home
Without an accessory, the usual solution is to turn the TV up, and then it is too loud for everyone else at home. When the sound goes straight to the hearing aids, everyone can listen at their own volume. This matters especially for couples who watch together, and for anyone who finds dialogue in films and the news muffled.
Three common situations at home
Watching alone
The sound goes straight to the hearing aids, and the TV can stay quiet. This suits late-night viewing, when others are asleep.
Watching together
The others hear the speakers at normal volume, and you hear through the hearing aids at your own volume.
News and dialogue
When the music in a film is loud and the speech is muffled, the TV program on the hearing aids and the personal volume help you focus on what is being said.
If it is also important to you to talk with the person next to you while watching, tell us at the fitting. We will explain how to switch between the TV program and the regular program, and adjust the hearing aids to your routine.
What to check before deciding
- The connections on the back of the TV: take a photo of the back of the TV and bring it to the conversation.
- The model and style of the hearing aids: compatibility is checked by model.
- Who else watches: whether others at home want to hear the TV speakers at the same time.
- Control: in the Philips HearLink 2 app.
Installation and pairing
The TV Adapter connects to the TV, and it usually also has to be paired with the hearing aids. At G-Sound we connect and pair it with you, by model, and explain how to switch to the TV program and back.
And without a TV Adapter?
Sometimes you start by adjusting the programs on the hearing aid, sitting closer to the TV, or using subtitles. A general comparison of TV solutions, for all brands: hearing aids and watching TV.

AudioClip: a remote microphone for one-to-one conversation.
