Philips Charger or Charger Plus: which charger fits your HearLink 50

In short: According to the Philips charger overview, each HearLink 50 style has two chargers: Philips Charger, a desktop charger that starts charging when you place the hearing aids in it, and Philips Charger Plus, a portable charger with a built-in battery for charging away from a socket. miniRITE R and miniBTE R have separate versions. So the first step is to identify the style, and the second is to decide by routine: home, travel or both.

The desktop charger: Philips Charger

According to Philips, in the desktop charger charging starts by itself when you place the hearing aids in it, and it is designed for overnight use. Anyone who comes home every evening and puts the hearing aids in the same place usually does well with it. Choose a fixed, dry spot for it by the bed, so putting the hearing aids in the charger becomes a habit.

The portable charger: Philips Charger Plus

According to Philips, Charger Plus is a portable charger with a built-in battery, so you can charge in it even when no socket is within reach: while travelling, on holiday or on a long day away from home. It also serves as a case for keeping the hearing aids in your bag. The built-in battery itself needs charging, so make that part of the routine before a trip.

How long does charging take?

Charging time varies by model, battery condition and use. Check the instructions for the specific model.

We do not publish numbers here, because actual use time also depends on audio streaming, calls and the age of the battery. If you need to plan a long day or a flight, ask us and we will go over the instructions for your model together.

What happens if the charger is disconnected during charging

According to the Philips instructions for use for HearLink 50 miniRITE, if the charger is disconnected from the mains or its battery runs out during charging, the hearing aids may switch themselves off to save battery. If they do not switch on when you take them out, switch them on by pressing the button. If it keeps happening, go over charging habits and simple checks.

Moved from an earlier Philips? The old charger probably will not fit

The Philips charger overview also lists chargers for earlier generations, for example Charger miniRITE T R and Charger Plus miniBTE T R, which are designed for HearLink 40 and 30. Do not assume that a charger from an earlier generation works with HearLink 50. Send us the old model name and the new model name, and we will check. More about moving over: upgrading from an older Philips.

How to decide: three questions

  • How many nights a month are you away from home? If almost never, the desktop charger is the basis.
  • Are there long days without access to a socket? Flights, field work or trips point towards Charger Plus.
  • Who looks after the hearing aids? If a family member or a caregiver is responsible for charging, choose whatever is simplest for them.

Some people keep two chargers, a desktop one at home and a portable one in the bag, and some manage with one. We will decide together based on your routine.
