The daily cleaning instructions are in the guide care and cleaning for Philips HearLink. Here the focus is on the parts themselves: how to know what fits you and what to keep at home.
How to know which part fits you
According to Philips, the miniRITE R speaker has several dome types in different sizes, from 5 to 12 mm. The Grip Tip comes in small or large, for right or left, with or without a vent. Philips stresses that you use only parts designed for your hearing aid.
In practice: the type and size were chosen at the fitting, based on the hearing test and the shape of the ear. Do not switch to another type or size on your own, even if it looks similar. Before ordering, photograph the packaging of the parts you received, or the dome on the hearing aid, and send it to us.
On miniBTE R: tube or hook
On the miniBTE R style the sound travels from the hearing aid to the ear through a thin tube or a hook, chosen at the fitting. Check from time to time that the tube is not blocked, cracked or hardened. It is replaced according to the manufacturer's instructions or by a professional. If something looks wrong, send a photo.
A recommended spare supply at home
- A few spare domes or Grip Tips, of the same type and size.
- A pack of ProWax miniFit filters.
- A photo of the packaging on your phone, so it is easy to reorder.
- A monthly calendar reminder to change the Grip Tip, if that is what you have.
When the supply is running low, order in advance. That way you are not left without a part just when the dome is full of wax.
Replacing correctly: three points from the instructions
- Dome: according to Philips, hold the speaker and pull the dome off. Insert the speaker exactly into the centre of the new dome, and push firmly to make sure it is attached well.
- Filter: according to Philips, first remove the dome. The replacement tool has two pins. Use the empty pin to remove the old filter and the other pin to insert the new one. Then throw the tool away.
- After removing it from the ear: according to Philips, check that the dome is still attached to the speaker. If it is not on the speaker, it may have stayed in the canal, and you should contact a professional.
What you do not replace yourself
- A filter in a custom earpiece or LiteTip. According to Philips, a professional replaces it.
- The speaker itself, and a switch to another type of dome.
- The rechargeable battery. According to Philips, do not try to open the hearing aid or replace the battery.
