A rechargeable style that sits entirely behind the ear. The sound travels from it to the ear through a thin tube or a hook.
How miniBTE R is built
In the miniBTE R style the whole hearing aid sits behind the ear. A tube or a hook comes out of the hearing aid and carries the sound into the ear. This is the main difference from miniRITE R, where the speaker itself is inside the canal.
According to the Philips documents for the style, a hook or a thin tube can be attached. The thin tubes come in two diameters: Corda 0.9 and Corda 1.3. The choice between them is made at the fitting.
Hook or tube: what is the difference?
The hook and the tube are two ways of carrying the sound. The hook usually connects to a custom earpiece. The thin tube ends in a dome or a part that goes into the canal. The professional chooses between them based on the hearing test, the shape of the ear and your comfort.
Note that the tube is a part that wears. Over time it can harden, crack or become blocked, and then it is replaced. More in the guide care and cleaning.
Charging
miniBTE R is rechargeable. According to Philips it has a desktop charger (Charger miniBTE R) and a portable charger (Charger Plus miniBTE R). Each style has a dedicated charger, so make sure the charger you have fits miniBTE R. More in the guide charging HearLink.
Questions to bring to the fitting
- Is a style in which the whole hearing aid is behind the ear important to you?
- Do you have an existing custom earpiece, or will you need a new one?
- How comfortable are you looking after a tube and changing a dome?
- Do you wear glasses, and how does the hearing aid sit next to them?
The other style is on the page HearLink miniRITE R.
Style and level
The style determines how the hearing aid sits and how the sound reaches the ear. The level determines the technology level of the sound processing. Each of the four levels is also offered in miniBTE R, so the decision on the style does not limit the choice of level. To choose the level: how to choose between HearLink levels.
