How to choose Philips HearLink and get started

In short: There is no single level that is right for everyone. The four HearLink levels, 9050, 7050, 5050 and 3050, belong to the same series and differ mainly in how they handle noise and several speakers. The choice is made from the hearing test and the places you spend your day. In a quiet setting the difference between the levels is smaller.

Four levels, two styles, one series. A guide to what really changes between the levels, what is the same in all of them, and how to reach a decision that suits you.

Two separate decisions: level and style

Choosing Philips HearLink is really two decisions. The level, 9050, 7050, 5050 or 3050, determines the technology level of the sound processing. The style, miniRITE R or miniBTE R, determines how the hearing aid sits on the ear and how the sound reaches the canal. Every level is offered in both styles, so you can choose the combination that suits you. All combinations on one page: Philips HearLink 50 levels and styles.

The four levels in one table

ModelLevelUsually suits
Philips HearLink 9050The highest level in the seriesPeople who spend a lot of time in complex, noisy settings: restaurants, events, meetings with several speakers
Philips HearLink 7050An advanced levelAn active lifestyle with frequent social gatherings
Philips HearLink 5050A mid levelEveryday use: conversations, TV, home and work
Philips HearLink 3050The entry level of the seriesRelatively quiet settings, and people starting with a hearing aid

The table describes a general tendency, not a rule. People with similar hearing loss can reach different decisions, because their routines differ.

What is the same at every level

Before comparing, it helps to know what does not change. The comparison between levels is about sound processing in complex situations. Everything else is the same:

On sound processing, according to Philips: SoundMap 3 uses AI-based noise reduction and advanced directionality to remove noise and give priority to speech. More: SoundMap 3 and background noise.

miniRITE R or miniBTE R?

miniRITE R

The body of the hearing aid is behind the ear, and the speaker is inside the canal. The speaker and dome are chosen at the fitting. It suits people who prefer a relatively small body behind the ear. The miniRITE R page

miniBTE R

Behind the ear, with the sound travelling through a thin tube or a hook. According to Philips documents, it can be fitted with a hook or a thin tube. The miniBTE R page

Questions that decide it

How many hours a week are you in a noisy setting?

Restaurants, events, meetings. This is the central question in choosing the level, because that is where the difference between the levels is felt.

How many people talk around you?

A one-to-one conversation is very different from a table of ten. The more speakers there are, the more it is worth considering a higher level.

How much does your setting change?

Someone who moves between the street, the car, the office and home needs a hearing aid that adapts to changing settings. The higher the level, the more refined the adaptation.

What do you want to change?

Getting back to family meals, hearing better in work meetings or in front of the TV. A clear goal helps you choose. And in the end, what does the hearing test say? Without a test, every recommendation is a guess.

Two common mistakes

  • Choosing the highest level "just to be safe": if most of your day is quiet, you may not feel the full difference.
  • Choosing by what suited a friend: their hearing and routine are different from yours.

Frequently asked questions

Questions and answers

Which HearLink level is better?

No level is better for everyone. The right level is the one that suits your hearing test and the places you spend your day. In a quiet setting the difference between the levels is smaller; in noise it is felt more.

Are the levels also different in design or charging?

No. The four levels look the same, are offered in the same two rechargeable styles, and use the same app and accessories. The difference is in sound processing in complex situations.

What should I bring to the consultation to choose a level?

Hearing test results, if you have them, and a short list of the places where you find it hard to hear and how much time you spend there. If phone calls matter to you, bring your phone too.

Can I choose a level without a hearing test?

It is not recommended. The choice starts with a professional hearing test, which determines which hearing aid and which fitting are right for you. At G-Sound you can arrange a hearing test at home nationwide, by appointment.

After I have chosen, who do I contact with questions?

G-Sound, by phone or WhatsApp on 055-3333338. All Philips requests come to us first: accessories, the app, filters, wax, daily operation and first-line support.

Do I choose the level or the style first?

Both are chosen together, after the test. The style follows from the hearing test and the shape of the ear, and the level from your routine and the settings you spend time in.
