A weekend up north, a week abroad or a family visit
This is how to plan charging rechargeable HearLink hearing aids away from home, according to what Philips states.
Charger Plus on the go: what Philips states
- Portable. Philips describes Charger Plus as a portable charger suitable for a weekend away from home.
- Built-in battery. According to Philips, it has a built-in battery that is enough for three full charges of two hearing aids, and that battery is recharged in about four hours.
- A version for each style. Charger Plus comes in a version for miniRITE and a version for miniBTE R. According to the instructions for use, charge only in the charger intended for the hearing aid.
So for a weekend you can usually leave with Charger Plus alone. On a longer trip, Charger Plus itself needs charging from the mains along the way. The chargers compared: Charger or Charger Plus · rechargeable and charging.
Simple planning: nights versus charges
Count how many nights you will be away. Philips recommends charging the hearing aids every night, so every night is one charge. If the number of nights is greater than the number of charges in the charger, plan when you will charge Charger Plus itself: at the hotel, with family, or anywhere with a socket. It is worth charging it fully the evening before you leave.
Power abroad
The chargers connect to power with a USB cable. According to the Philips instructions for use, if you connect the charger through a USB adapter other than the one supplied with it, the adapter must meet the IEC 62368-1 safety requirements or an equivalent. Abroad, take the original cable and adapter, and a plug adapter for the country.
Heat, sun and water on holiday
- Not in the car. According to Philips, do not leave the hearing aids in the sun by a window or in a parked car, even in the charger. Excessive heat damages the rechargeable battery.
- Charging temperature. According to the Philips troubleshooting table, if the hearing aid does not charge, one possible reason is a hearing aid or charger that is too hot or too cold. Move them to a place between +5 and +40 degrees Celsius.
- Sunscreen and insect repellent. According to Philips, take the hearing aids off before applying such products, and let them dry before putting the hearing aids back.
- Pool and sea. According to the Philips instructions for use, do not wear the hearing aids in the shower or during water activities. Wipe moisture off them before charging.
On the plane
According to the Philips instructions for use, the hearing aids use Bluetooth, and they may be used on a plane. Hearing aids are exempt from the rules that apply on board to portable electronic devices. If you are asked to turn off Bluetooth, according to Philips you hold the button for about seven seconds. Pressing on one hearing aid turns Bluetooth off on both, and the hearing aids keep working as hearing aids. For the charger in your luggage, check the airline's rules in advance.
Packing list
- A charged Charger Plus, or the desktop charger if there is a fixed socket at your destination.
- The original USB cable and power adapter, and a plug adapter for the destination country.
- Spare domes or Grip Tips and wax filters, of the same type you received. According to Philips, always use the same filter type that was supplied with the hearing aid.
- The cleaning tool (MultiTool).
- Your phone with the HearLink 2 app. According to Philips, the app can show the hearing aids on a map if they get lost.
