A question we hear often. The honest answer: it depends on you. Here is what Philips states about the family, and what to check to know whether it suits you.
What Philips states about HearLink 50
- Four technology levels: according to Philips, 9050, 7050, 5050 and 3050, all in the same family. The difference is the level of technology. HearLink 50 levels and styles
- Two rechargeable styles: according to Philips, miniRITE R and miniBTE R, both behind the ear and charged in a dedicated charger. Rechargeable and charging
- Phone: according to Philips, calls without holding the phone with iPhone and iPad, and with Android devices and Windows computers that support LE Audio. App, Bluetooth and phone
- App: according to Philips, the HearLink 2 app lets you change volume and program, see the battery status and find a lost hearing aid.
- Sound processing: according to Philips, SoundMap 3 aims to bring out speech even in noisy places. How noticeable this is depends on the level, the fitting and the environment. SoundMap 3 and background noise
- Water and moisture: according to Philips documents, both styles are rated IP68, and still they are not worn in the shower or during water activities.
- Accessories: according to Philips, these include the TV Adapter for the TV and AudioClip, a remote microphone. Accessories and chargers
This is what Philips publishes. It does not tell you whether the hearing aid suits you, and it does not replace a hearing test.
What it depends on in practice
- The hearing test: it decides which hearing aid and which fitting are right for you.
- The situations you find hard: at home and in quiet places, or often in restaurants, at events and in meetings. The level is chosen accordingly.
- The style: how the hearing aid sits on the ear, and which speaker and dome or tube fit.
- Professional fitting: fitting and adjustments are done by a professional, as needed.
- Follow-up: after a first period of use you come back for further adjustment based on your experience. Fitting and follow-up
What to check at the test, demonstration and fitting
- How speech sounds in quiet, and in the situations you find hard every day.
- Whether your phone connects: calls, streaming and the app, with your own phone, not in theory.
- Comfort on the ear: the style, the dome or the tube.
- Charging: how the hearing aids go into the charger, and the end-of-day routine.
- TV: if it matters to you, whether the TV Adapter suits your TV.
- Who to contact afterwards: questions, the app, filters and domes.
At G-Sound you can arrange a hearing test and demonstration at home, nationwide and by appointment. A home hearing test and demonstration usually take about an hour to an hour and a half.
Questions to ask before you decide
- Which level and style suit my hearing test and my routine, and why?
- Does my phone support calls and streaming to the hearing aids?
- How does charging work, and which charger fits the style?
- What does follow-up after the fitting include?
- How do I order filters, domes and accessories later?
