What Philips HearLink users around the world say

In short: This page brings together what Philips HearLink users around the world have written on forums and on the Philips stories page. Some describe easier listening in restaurants, in the car and in front of the TV. Others write about trouble connecting the app on Android, needing fine-tuning, or a blocked-ear feeling. For each difficulty we added what to check and what helps. These are personal experiences of people who are not G-Sound customers.

Good to know: the people quoted here are users around the world, not G-Sound customers. These are personal experiences, not research, and one person’s experience does not predict yours. Their settings, accessories and phones may not match yours. What matters in practice is the fitting and fine-tuning with a hearing care professional.

What users like

Conversation in noise: restaurants and the car

Talking in a noisy place is one of the positive themes that keeps coming up on the forum. One user wrote that he can hear everyone at his table in a busy restaurant, and in the car while driving. On the Philips stories page, a user from the United States says she was tired of asking people to repeat themselves, and a user from Japan says she enjoys conversation with friends more and goes out more. The full quotes are further down.

The TV

Users who connected the TV Adapter wrote that they are pleased with the sound quality and the signal strength, and that switching over to it was easy. A user from France says on the Philips stories page that she used to turn the TV up very loud, and that this is no longer the case. According to Philips, the TV Adapter sends the TV sound wirelessly to the hearing aids, and the volume in the hearing aids is set separately, without disturbing others in the room.

iPhone and phone calls

On the forum, some users described a stable connection to iPhone. Others reported streaming problems, so it is worth testing your own phone in practice. According to Philips, the new hearing aids support hands-free calls directly with iPhone and iPad. You answer a call with a short press on the button of one of the hearing aids, and on iPhone you need to make sure Mic Input is turned on.

App, Bluetooth and phone · Not connecting to iPhone

What users describe as hard, and what helps

Connecting the app on Android

This was the theme that came up most often in the complaints we found. Users described the app showing the hearing aids as disconnected, even though the Bluetooth settings show them as connected. Others wrote that one hearing aid drops out while streaming.

What helps

According to the Philips troubleshooting guide: turn Bluetooth off and on again, restart the hearing aids and the HearLink 2 app, and keep the hearing aids connected to one mobile device only. It also helps to remove Bluetooth pairings you no longer use and to update the phone’s software. On a phone that supports ASHA, Philips recommends pairing through the app rather than through the Android Bluetooth menu. Not every phone is suitable, so bring your phone to the appointment and test the connection there.

Needing fine-tuning

Several users wrote that the noise reduction felt confusing at first, or that their own voice sounded metallic. Some described an improvement after the professional changed the settings. Others wrote that the adjustment did not help them enough.

What helps

After a first period of use, it is worth coming back for fine-tuning. At the visit, describe where it was hard and what felt unnatural, and the professional reviews the settings. According to Philips, you can also ask the professional to set up a dedicated music program. Any change in how sound or your hearing feels should be checked by a professional.

A blocked-ear feeling and domes

Users described a blocked-ear feeling, a sense of occlusion and hearing internal sounds. For some, a different dome or earmold changed the feeling; for others it did not.

What helps

The dome type and size are chosen at the fitting, based on the hearing test and the shape of the ear. If it does not feel comfortable, come back for a fine-tuning visit and check the dome and the settings together. According to Philips, domes are not cleaned but replaced, at least once a month or as your hearing care professional advises.

Domes: types and replacement

Pairing the AudioClip

Users wrote that the AudioClip disconnected after a short time, or that the person on the other end could not hear them through its microphone.

What helps

According to Philips, you first pair the AudioClip with the hearing aids, and only then with the phone. When it is on and within range, it connects to the phone by itself, and a steady blue light shows that it is connected. The AudioClip is needed mainly for phones and devices that do not stream directly to the hearing aids.

No. They are Philips HearLink users around the world who wrote on the HearingTracker forum, or whose story appears on the stories page of the Philips website. Every quote is shown with a link to its source.

If it worked well for someone else, will it work for me?

Not necessarily. Experience differs from person to person and depends on your hearing, your routine, your phone and the fitting itself. One person’s experience does not predict yours. That is why fitting and fine-tuning with a professional matter.

The Android app can’t find the hearing aids, although Bluetooth shows them as connected. What should I check?

According to the Philips troubleshooting guide: turn Bluetooth off and on again, restart the hearing aids and the HearLink 2 app, and keep the hearing aids connected to one mobile device only. On a phone that supports ASHA, Philips recommends pairing through the app rather than the Android Bluetooth menu. If that does not help, contact us.
