Philips HearLink in restaurants and noisy places: what users say, and what to check for you

English version: 5 November 2026 · Original version updated 05.11.2026

G-Sound is an authorized marketer of Philips hearing aids. Kol Echad (קול אחד) — an authorized marketer through authorized agents nationwide.

In short: A Philips HearLink user wrote on an international forum that he can hear everyone at his table in a busy restaurant. On the Philips stories page, users talk about enjoying conversation with friends without having to ask people to repeat themselves. These are personal experiences, not a promise. For you, what counts is a full hearing test, the fitting and fine-tuning. You can start with our self-check.

Hard to follow the conversation at a restaurant table?

Start with the self-check: a questionnaire, tones for each ear and digits in noise, all in one test, without leaving your details. The self-check is currently in Hebrew.

What did Philips HearLink users write about restaurants?

Conversation in a noisy place is one of the positive themes that keeps coming up in what we collected from the HearingTracker forum and the stories page of the Philips website. One user wrote that he can hear everyone at his table in a busy restaurant. On the Philips stories page, a user from the United States says she was tired of asking people to repeat themselves, and a user from Japan says she enjoys conversation with friends more, and goes out more.

“I can hear everyone at my table in a busy restaurant, and now I can hear in the car while driving which I couldn’t before.”

Why is a restaurant such a hard place to follow a conversation?

In a restaurant several people talk at once, over music and the noise from the tables around you. Many people say they hear well in quiet surroundings, and this is exactly where they start missing words. It is no coincidence: one of the ten questions in the NIDCD questionnaire, the US institute our questionnaire is adapted from, is about difficulty hearing in a restaurant.

What makes the difference, judging by these experiences?

Read one after the other, the experiences are not uniform. Some users described an improvement after the professional changed the settings. Others wrote that the noise reduction felt confusing at first, or that the adjustment did not help them enough. Our takeaway is simple: how the hearing aids behave in noise is set at the fitting, so it is important to tell the professional exactly what happens at the restaurant.

What to tell us about restaurants at the test and the fitting

  • Where you usually sit: in a corner, in the middle, by a wall or near the speakers.
  • How many people sit at the table, and whether it gets harder when everyone talks at once.
  • Which side is harder, and whether you turn one ear towards the speaker.
  • What happens when there is background music, and how it compares with a quieter café.
  • What came up in the self-check, especially in the digits-in-noise step. What each line of the summary means: Online hearing test: what it can and cannot tell you.

How to start

  1. The self-check. Our self-check (in Hebrew) includes a digits-in-noise step. It gives an indication only, not a diagnosis. About this step: The digits-in-noise test.
  2. A full hearing test. A test with an audiometer that also includes a speech understanding test. At G-Sound it is carried out by G-Sound technicians, and home hearing tests can be arranged nationwide by appointment. Home hearing test.
  3. Fitting. If a hearing aid suits you, it is chosen and set according to the test and your daily routine. All models and accessories: Philips HearLink.
  4. Fine-tuning. After a first period of use, it is worth coming back for fine-tuning and telling us how it went at the restaurant.

Good to know

  • The quotes are the writers’ personal experience, not research and not a promise of results. One person’s experience does not predict yours.
  • The writers are not G-Sound customers. Their settings, models and circumstances may not match yours.

Frequently asked questions

Questions and answers

Will Philips HearLink help me hear in restaurants?

There is no way to know in advance. Users around the world have described easier conversation in restaurants, but the experience differs from person to person and depends on your hearing, the fitting and the fine-tuning. The first step is a full hearing test.

Does the online self-check also test hearing in noise?

It includes a digits-in-noise step, which gives an indication only. It does not measure how well you understand speech in a restaurant and does not replace a full hearing test.

I already have hearing aids and restaurants are still hard. What should I do?

Come back for a fine-tuning visit and describe exactly where it was hard: how many people were at the table, whether there was music, and which side people spoke from. The professional reviews the settings based on what you describe.
