Philips HearLink in the car: what a user says about talking while driving

English version: 5 November 2026 · Original version updated 05.11.2026

G-Sound is an authorized marketer of Philips hearing aids. Kol Echad (קול אחד) — an authorized marketer through authorized agents nationwide.

In short: A Philips HearLink user wrote on an international forum that he can now hear in the car while driving, which he could not do before. This is one person’s personal experience, not a promise. In a car, the person talking to you sits beside you or behind you, so it is worth describing your journeys at the test and the fitting. You can start with our self-check and go on to a full hearing test.

Asking people to repeat themselves on every drive?

Start with the self-check: a questionnaire, tones for each ear and digits in noise, all in one test, without leaving your details. The self-check is currently in Hebrew.

What did a Philips HearLink user write about driving?

On the HearingTracker forum, a Philips HearLink user wrote about two places where he noticed a change: a table in a busy restaurant, and the car. About the car, he wrote:

“…and now I can hear in the car while driving which I couldn’t before.”

This is one quote, from one person. We did not find other experiences about the car that we could verify against the source page, so we are not adding anything beyond what he wrote. About the restaurant part of the same quote: Philips HearLink in restaurants and noisy places. What to notice on your next journey

Before booking a test, it helps to collect a few details from the journeys themselves. It is better to notice them as a passenger, not while you are driving:

  • Where people talk to you from: the seat next to you, the back seat, or through the car speakers.
  • What is on in the car: radio, air conditioning, an open window. Does the difficulty change when you turn them off?
  • How often you ask someone to repeat something, compared with a conversation at home.
  • Whether it is harder at speed than when driving in town.

These details do not diagnose anything. They help the person testing you and the person fitting the hearing aids understand what happens in your everyday life.

And phone calls in the car?

According to Philips, the new HearLink hearing aids support hands-free calls directly with iPhone and iPad. You answer a call with a short press on the button of one of the hearing aids, and on iPhone you need to make sure Mic Input is turned on. Not every phone is suitable, so bring your phone to the appointment and test the connection there.

While driving, only use your phone or the app when it is safe to do so. Connect, pair and set things up before you set off.

What to tell us about the car at the test and the fitting

  • How long you spend in the car each day, and whether you mostly drive or ride as a passenger.
  • Who usually talks to you in the car, and from which side.
  • Whether you take phone calls while travelling, and on which phone.
  • What came up in the self-check, and in which ear. What each line of the summary means: Online hearing test: what it can and cannot tell you.

How Philips HearLink fitting works, and why you come back for fine-tuning after a first period of use: Fitting and follow-up.

Where to start

  1. The self-check. The online self-check (in Hebrew) gives a first indication of whether to go further. It does not replace a hearing test.
  2. A full hearing test. At G-Sound it is carried out by G-Sound technicians, with an audiometer, and it also includes a speech understanding test. Home hearing tests can be arranged nationwide by appointment. Home hearing test.
  3. Fitting and fine-tuning. If a hearing aid suits you, tell us about your journeys, and at the fine-tuning visit tell us how it went in the car. Models and accessories: Philips HearLink.

Good to know

  • The quote is the personal experience of a user somewhere in the world, not a G-Sound customer. It is not research and not a promise of results.
  • If you find it hard to hear horns, sirens or warnings while driving, do not wait: arrange a hearing test.
  • Sudden hearing loss, ear pain or discharge from the ear are a reason to see a doctor the same day.

Want to find out how it is for you?

Start with the self-check, or arrange a full hearing test, also at home.
