Hearing Aid Repair: What Can and Can’t Be Fixed
What the laboratory does
The work is decided by what the check finds. Depending on the case, it includes:
- Technical check: finding out the condition of the device and the type of fault.
- Maintenance and cleaning: according to the type of device and its condition.
- Repair: according to the findings of the check and the availability of parts.
- Adjustment: according to the need and the type of device.
- Earmoulds and shells: handled after a check.
Each of the common faults has its own page explaining what is checked (in Hebrew): battery and charging contacts, receiver, microphone and in-the-ear shell.
Parts that are usually checked
External parts
The shell of the device, the battery door, the buttons, the tube, the earmould or dome, and the microphone and receiver openings. These parts are exposed to everyday use, moisture and earwax, so they are checked in almost every case.
Internal parts
The receiver (speaker), the microphones, the battery or charging contacts and, in rechargeable devices, how the device charges. Internal parts are checked in the laboratory only. Please do not open the device at home.
Accessories
The charger and charging accessories are checked when the fault is related to them. More detail (in Hebrew): a fault in a hearing-aid charger.
What decides whether a repair is possible
Whether the device can be handled is decided after a check. Several things affect it:
- The model and how it is designed: in some devices parts can be replaced fairly easily; others are built as a single unit.
- The condition of the device: physical damage, moisture or corrosion affect how much work is needed.
- Availability of parts: for older models, parts may no longer be available.
- Need for manufacturer service: when manufacturer service is needed, the device is passed on accordingly and we keep you informed.
That is why nobody can tell in advance, from a phone description alone, whether a particular fault can be repaired. The description helps us understand what to check; the decision is made after the check.
What is outside the service
- Medical diagnosis: the laboratory works on the device, not on the ear or on hearing. If your hearing drops suddenly, see a doctor without delay.
- Guaranteed results: there is no commitment that every fault can be repaired or that the device will return to the condition it was in when new.
- Changing a device beyond its design: the work stays within what the model allows.
- Do-it-yourself repair instructions: internal parts should not be replaced, and the device should not be opened, at home.
When repair is not the answer
Sometimes the check shows that the difficulty is not a fault in the device at all: trouble putting it in or taking it out, a feeling that your hearing has changed, or a need for adjustment. In those cases the next step may be a review of the fitting rather than a repair. If the question of replacing the device comes up, see when to replace a hearing aid.
Questions worth asking before you hand over a device
- Are the type of device and the fault suitable for a laboratory check?
- Which items should go with the device?
- How, and to whom, will the findings be explained after the check?
- What happens if it turns out that manufacturer service is needed?
You get the answers to these questions in the coordination call, before the device leaves your home. That way there are no surprises when the decision is made.

Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions
Do you handle every type of hearing aid?
We look at every request. Whether a device can be handled is decided after a check, according to the type of device and the type of fault.
Can I know in advance whether a fault can be repaired?
Not always. Your description helps us understand what to check, but the decision is made after the device has been checked, according to the model, its condition and the availability of parts.
Does the laboratory also test hearing?
No. The laboratory works on the device itself. Questions about hearing or the ear belong with a suitable professional, and if your hearing drops suddenly, see a doctor without delay.
What happens when manufacturer service is needed?
When manufacturer service is needed, the device is passed on accordingly and we keep you informed.
