Custom Sleep Earplugs: What to Know
- We come to youAt home or at your workplace
- We take a measurementOf your ear, during the visit
- Sent by mailYour earplugs are sent to you by mail
Among its steps for better sleep, the NHS recommends keeping the bedroom dark and quiet and, if needed, using curtains, an eye mask or earplugs. An earplug does not silence the room completely, and we do not promise quiet with it. The aim is an earplug that stays in place and is comfortable enough for you to wear all night.
Which type of earplug suits sleep?
The difference between the types is mainly comfort through the night, stability and hygiene. The table sums up what to check for each type. For any ready-made earplug, follow the manufacturer's instructions.
| Foam | Soft silicone | Wax | Custom-made | |
|---|---|---|---|---|

When is a custom sleep earplug the right choice?
- You sleep with earplugs almost every night. A reusable earplug, kept in a case, instead of buying again and again.
- Your earplugs come out in the middle of the night. An earplug made to the shape of your ear does not come in a one-size-fits-all size.
- You sleep on your side. An earplug that sits inside the ear, with no large part sticking out.
- Foam earplugs press on your ears. The earplug is made from a flexible material, to your measurement.
A made-to-measure earplug does not guarantee it will feel right from the first night. If something does not sit well, contact us. Repair and refit options are checked case by case. What to do if an earplug is uncomfortable

What if your partner snores?
The NHS advises people who snore to consider asking their partner to use earplugs if the snoring disturbs their sleep. The earplug helps the person who hears the snoring; it does not treat the snoring itself. According to the NHS, daytime tiredness, pauses in breathing during sleep or choking are a reason to see a doctor.
How do you put in sleep earplugs?
- Foam: CDC/NIOSH describe a three-step method: roll the earplug between your fingers, pull your ear so it is easier to put in, and hold it in place. They recommend doing this with clean hands. Follow the manufacturer's instructions as well.
- Silicone and wax: warm it a little between your fingers, form a ball and cover the opening of the canal. Do not push it in. Follow the manufacturer's instructions.
- Custom-made: put it in as instructed when you receive the earplug. The earplug is made to the shape of your ear, so it has only one correct orientation.
How do you keep earplugs clean?
- Clean hands before putting them in and taking them out.
- Clean a reusable earplug as instructed, dry it and put it back in its case. Replace a single-use or dirty earplug.
- Do not pass an earplug to another person.
- Do not clean your ear with cotton buds or a finger. The NHS explains that this pushes the wax further in.
- According to the NHS, irritation of the ear canal can also be caused by water or by using earplugs. If your ear itches or feels sore, stop using them until the symptoms pass.

When should you stop using an earplug and see a doctor?
An earplug of any type is not a medical treatment. Stop using the earplug and see a doctor if you have:
- Ear pain, or pain that gets worse when you touch the outer ear.
- Discharge from the ear.
- Itching or swelling that does not go away.
- A sudden change in hearing. According to the NHS, sudden hearing loss in one or both ears needs urgent medical attention.
How do you order a custom sleep earplug?
- A conversation to understand what you need.
- We come to you by appointment, and the measurement is taken as an ear mould. What to prepare before the visit
- We make the earplug and send it to you.
The production time is given after the measurement is taken. Where suitable, the measurement can be kept for a reorder. About reordering
Frequently asked questions
Can you sleep with earplugs every night?
Many people use earplugs at night on a regular basis, and the NHS mentions earplugs as one of the ways to keep a bedroom quiet. Keeping them clean matters, and if pain, discharge or itching that does not go away appear, stop using them and see a doctor.
Which earplug suits someone who sleeps on their side?
An earplug that does not stick out of the ear, so it does not press when your head is on the pillow. A custom earplug is made to the shape of the ear, so it usually sits inside it. A foam earplug that goes all the way in may also suit. It is worth trying for a few nights and checking.
Do earplugs help when your partner snores?
The NHS advises people who snore to consider asking their partner to use earplugs if the snoring disturbs their sleep. The earplug does not treat the snoring itself. Pauses in breathing, choking or severe daytime tiredness are a reason to see a doctor.
Will I hear the alarm clock with earplugs?
We do not promise what you will hear with the earplug. If hearing an alarm clock matters to you, test it on a morning when you have no commitments, and tell us about this need before you order.
How often should foam earplugs be replaced?
As the manufacturer's instructions on the pack say. If the earplug is dirty, torn or does not return to its shape after squeezing, replace it.
When is it worth moving to a custom sleep earplug?
When ready-made earplugs come out of your ear in the middle of the night or press, or when you use earplugs almost every night. We come to you at home or at your workplace, take a measurement, and the earplugs are sent to you by mail.
