Philips HearLink user guide: where to find it and what to check first
Philips HearLink: hearing aids from Philips. Just got your HearLink and looking for the manual? This page explains which documents exist for HearLink 50, how to tell which one belongs to your model, and what is worth reading before you actually need it.
1. Start with your model
HearLink 50 comes in two rechargeable styles: HearLink 50 miniRITE R (on Philips' site also listed as miniRITE) and HearLink 50 miniBTE R. Philips' documents list four technology levels for each style: 9050, 7050, 5050 and 3050. In other words, "9050" is the technology level, while "miniRITE R" or "miniBTE R" is the shape of the hearing aid. You need both to find the right document.
Not sure which style you have? The clearest difference: according to Philips' Technical Data, a miniBTE R connects to the ear with a hook or a thin tube. On a miniRITE R, sound reaches the ear through a miniFit Detect speaker, fitted with a dome or a MicroShell. Still unsure? Take a photo of the hearing aid, send it to us on WhatsApp, and we'll try to help you identify it.
2. Which documents Philips publishes
For HearLink 50, Philips publishes a user guide and a Technical Data sheet for the miniRITE R, and a Technical Data sheet for the miniBTE R. The documents this page is based on are in English.
This table sums up the documents we checked for each style, and what we found in them:
| Document | Style | What we found in it |
|---|---|---|
| User guide | HearLink 50 miniRITE R | The 9050, 7050, 5050 and 3050 models; the list of speakers and ear-pieces (domes); what happens if the charger loses power during charging; a mention of using an accessory as a microphone and wireless headset. |
| Technical Data | HearLink 50 miniRITE R | Rechargeable, non-removable lithium-ion battery; telecoil; Bluetooth LE Audio, MFi and ASHA; IP68 rating; accessories including a TV Adapter and the AudioClip. |
| Technical Data | HearLink 50 miniBTE R | Contact charging; hook or thin tube; double push-button; telecoil; IP68 rating; Bluetooth LE Audio, Auracast, MFi and ASHA. |
| User guide | HearLink 50 miniBTE R | Not among the documents we checked. For the miniBTE R user guide, contact us on 055-3333338. |
3. What to check in the guide on your first read
Most people open the manual only once something stops working. It is better to read it once while everything works, and mark the sections you will need later. These are the topics we are asked about most. The points below come from the miniRITE R user guide and the Technical Data sheets:
- Charging. HearLink 50 miniRITE R runs on a rechargeable, non-removable lithium-ion battery, so there is no battery to change. The miniBTE R charges through contacts. More on the Philips HearLink charging page, including the portable Charger Plus.
- If the charger loses power. According to Philips' miniRITE R user guide, if the charger is disconnected from power, or its battery runs out while charging, the hearing aids may turn off to save power. If they don't turn on when you take them out of the charger, turn them on with the push-button (see the Philips HearLink button). Worth remembering before you assume there is a fault.
- Domes and speakers. The miniRITE R user guide lists miniFit Detect 60, 85 and 100 speakers, and regular ear-pieces in sizes from 5 to 12 mm. The type and size are chosen during fitting, not by guesswork.
- Cleaning and care. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for your model. General advice is on the Philips HearLink care, filters and wax page.
- Accessories. The HearLink 50 documents list, among others, a TV Adapter and the AudioClip.
4. User guide or Technical Data: what's the difference
These are two separate documents, each with its own job. The user guide explains everyday use of the hearing aids. The Technical Data brings together technical details, connectivity options and the list of accessories. If you want to know whether a hearing aid supports a particular feature, Auracast for example, the Technical Data is the place to check. According to Philips, Auracast appears in the miniBTE R Technical Data and not in the miniRITE R Technical Data.
The Technical Data also contains acoustic figures. Don't use them on your own to decide which hearing aid or speaker suits you; that is decided at the fitting.
5. When to call instead of searching the manual
The manual helps with everyday questions. In some situations, searching the document only slows you down:
- One hearing aid is quiet or won't turn on, even after you have checked charging, the dome and cleaning. Our Philips HearLink FAQ may also help.
- You are not sure which model you have, so you don't know which document applies.
- You need a replacement part: a dome, a charger or an accessory.
- Something on the hearing aid looks damaged or cracked.
When you get in touch, tell us the model (if you know it), what exactly is happening and when it started. That makes it easier to work out the next step on the first call.
