Getting a Hearing Aid to Repair: Drop-off, Pickup and Return

In short: G-Sound provides hearing-aid service across Israel. Depending on the service area, the type of device and the fault, a home visit, pickup, delivery or handling at the laboratory can be arranged. Service options and cost are checked in advance for each case.

The four options

Depending on the case, one of these options is chosen in the coordination call:

OptionWhen it is considered
Home visitWhen the service needed can be done at home, depending on the service area and the type of device.
PickupIn suitable cases, the device is picked up for repair and returned, arranged in advance.
DeliveryWhen it is agreed that the device will be sent for repair. How it is sent is agreed in the call.
Handling at the laboratoryWhen the fault needs a check or work in the laboratory.

None of these options is automatic: each is considered case by case, and service options and cost are checked in advance.

What is agreed in the coordination call

  • Which way of getting the device to us suits the case.
  • Which items to hand over: the device only, or also the charger and accessories when they are related to the fault.
  • Contact details of the person arranging the return, if that is not the owner of the device, for example a family member.
  • An address for collection and return, in the case of pickup or delivery.
  • How you will be updated after the check.

It is worth writing down what was agreed. If anything is unclear, ask before the device leaves your hands.

Before the device leaves home

  • Write down a description of the fault and the model name, if you know it.
  • Take a photo of the device. It helps with identification and records its condition.
  • Hand the device over in its original case or another protective case, to protect it from pressure and drops.
  • Add only the items you agreed to hand over.

A broader checklist (in Hebrew): what to prepare before sending a hearing aid for repair.

Getting the device back

The return is arranged too: the same way the device was handed over, or another way that was agreed. When the device comes back, try it in your usual surroundings, in conversation, at home and on the phone, and get in touch again if something is still not right.

For clinics, businesses and institutions

When several devices come from one place, such as a clinic, a business, assisted living or another institution, coordination works differently: each device needs to be labelled, there should be one regular contact person, and records need to be kept in order. See services for institutions and nursing homes and assisted living.

When the person handing over is not the owner

Often the person who arranges the hand-over is a son or daughter, a carer or a staff member. That is fine, but agree three things in advance: who describes the fault, who receives the explanation after the check, and who decides whether to go ahead. When the owner of the device finds phone calls difficult, you can ask for the update to be sent in writing as well, to the person you agreed on.

When only one of a pair is faulty

If you wear two hearing aids and only one is faulty, ask in the coordination call whether to hand over just that one or both. Sometimes comparing the two helps the check; sometimes it is better to keep the working one with you so that you can keep hearing on one side. The decision depends on the case.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

How do I get a hearing aid to repair?

Depending on the service area, the type of device and the fault, a home visit, pickup, delivery or handling at the laboratory can be arranged. The right way is agreed in the call.

Can you pick the device up from home?

In suitable cases, the device can be picked up for repair and returned, arranged in advance.

Do I need to send the charger too?

Only if that was agreed. When the fault is related to charging, we usually ask to look at the charger as well, and this is decided in the coordination call.

Can a family member arrange it for me?

Yes, it can be arranged through a family member or carer. Agree in advance who receives the update after the check and who arranges the return.
