Ready-made earplug or custom earplug?
A ready-made earplug and a custom earplug are two different approaches, and neither suits everyone. This article helps you understand the difference between them and when each makes sense. We come to your home or workplace, take an impression, and the earplugs are sent to you by post.
The difference in short
| Ready-made earplug | Custom earplug | |
|---|---|---|
| How it is made | In fixed sizes | From an impression of your ear |
| Availability | Immediate | After the impression and preparation |
| Process | Buy and use | Conversation, impression, preparation and delivery |
| Ordering another | Buy again | In suitable cases, from a stored impression |
When a ready-made earplug may be enough
- For occasional use.
- When you need an immediate solution.
- When the ready-made earplug sits well and is comfortable for you.
When it is worth looking into an earplug made to measure
- When ready-made earplugs move, fall out or are uncomfortable for you.
- For regular use, for example swimming, sleep or work in a noisy setting.
- When you want one earplug for repeated use.
What custom fitting does not guarantee
An earplug made to measure follows the shape of the ear, but that does not guarantee it will feel perfect from the first moment. If something does not sit well, options for adjustment and refitting are checked case by case. What to do if the earplug is uncomfortable
By use
- Swimming: Custom swim earplugs
- Sleep: Custom sleep earplugs
- Noise: Custom noise earplugs
- Hearing aid: Earmoulds for hearing aids
How the impression is taken: it can be done with a physical impression of the ear (casting), or with a scanning process, depending on what suits the ear and the use. When possible, the impressions are kept to make reordering easier. About taking an impression · About reordering
