Hearing aid fitting and fine-tuning: when to ask and how to arrange it

In short: If sound feels too loud, too soft or tiring, or the hearing aid helps at home but not at work, arrange a fine-tuning. Before the appointment, write down three or four situations where the hearing aid did not help. Fine-tuning is by appointment, including at the customer's home, and the change is checked against those situations.

A hearing aid can work perfectly and still not suit you. Re-adjusting the settings is sometimes the difference between a hearing aid left in the drawer and one worn all day. All the fitting steps in one place: G-Sound services · what happens at a follow-up visit: Follow-up and adjustments.

When it is time for a fine-tuning

  • "Everything is too loud": plates, papers and doors bother you more than speech.
  • "I hear but do not understand": voices are audible, but the words are not clear, especially in noise.
  • "Fine at home, hard outside": the hearing aid helps in quiet and struggles in a restaurant, a meeting or the car.
  • "It is tiring": at the end of the day you take the hearing aid off to rest.
  • "Something has changed": a new workplace, a new hobby, or a feeling that your hearing is different.

What to prepare for a fine-tuning appointment

  • A list of specific situations: where you were, who was talking and what was in the background.
  • Situations where the hearing aid works very well too, so they are kept.
  • A charged, clean hearing aid, and your phone if the connection to it bothers you.
  • Earlier fitting documents, if you have them.
  • If it is hard to remember, record a voice note on your phone close to the situation that bothered you.

A hearing aid fitted elsewhere

A hearing aid that was not fitted with us can also come in for a check. The option of fine-tuning can be checked after a preliminary professional assessment, by model and fitting software. Not every case is suitable, so we start by checking: send us the model name and a photo of the hearing aid.

Where it is arranged

Fine-tuning is by appointment: at the customer's home, at work, and sometimes in the everyday setting where the difficulty happens. When it is done at home, the change can be checked during the visit, in front of your TV or in the room where conversation is hard. More: Hearing aid fitting at home. Service options and cost are checked in advance for each case.

After the fine-tuning

Some changes are felt during the appointment, and some become clear only after a week of normal routine. Keep noting what works and what does not, and if needed, arrange another adjustment. With a new hearing aid, notes from the first weeks matter most: The first weeks with new hearing aids.

When it is not a matter of fine-tuning

If the hearing in one ear dropped suddenly, see a doctor without delay. If the hearing aid is silent, whistles or does not charge, it may be a fault: Service and repairs · Hearing aid repair: how to request it.
